Axel stood in front of his class with his arms crossed, using his desk as a support. He smiled slightly watching them. “Now that you all have read the bit I gave to you, I want to know, what did you think of how they used magic in comparison to how we use it today…for their time period and knowledge, do you feel that they used it wisely or were they foolish?” Honestly the question would be answered rather interestingly, he though, this class was full of students from different houses, and backgrounds…some might say that those who had magic should have taken over those who didn’t, others might lean to the magical ones should have help the non-magical one more…either way these would be interesting.
“Well…?”

"Professor, I believe the way they used it was pretty smart. If you think about it they used to for life and we do to but we also use it when we don't want to go get something. Now if we use magic like they did then we might not have to worry about dark wizards trying to take over teh magical world. In example think back when you was a kid and Voldermort was trying to take over. Do you think that if we use magic like the Egypians did we would not after to worry about something like that?" Juliana's finger traced down the text for today's class. She looked for something she could talk about, because she'd forgotten to read the night before, but she really didn't want Professor Miriyan to hate her. "I..umm. Well, I don't understand why in Merlin's name they would sleep in a disgusting basement for visions. I mean are you telling me that if I did that now, I would have a dream about a crocodile? I would volunteer for the experiment, but like I said, 'Dusty Basement'" she interrupted the previous speaker.

Rayn shook her head. "I'd have to contradict you there Jacob...think through history itself, there are people who are evil and who are, I sure there are ones who had magic back then to who could have been as bad as Voldemort...I believe it all boils down to the kind of person you are."
She then turned and grinned at Juliana"Honestly, I think they were on something. I mean...how else could they come up with all that?"

Jacob looked at Rayn. " I understand where you are going at but remember they mainly used it for religion." Jacob said as he turned around in his seat.

"Of course there weren't people as bad as Voldemort. He was the baddest, after Salazaar." Juliana told Rayn. "And, yeah, I do agree with you. It doesn't make any bloody sense to me." Juliana took her quill and doodled hearts on her book while she spoke. She didn't have any clue what the first boy was talking about because she hadn't done the reading.

Mika sat closer towards the front of the class, listening intently to what was being said. "In a way you're both wrong, and you're both right." She muttered with a shrug. "Yes, thier magic was mainly used for survival and religion and they didn't have as much of a threat with Dark MAgic as we do today, but at the same time they weren't completely oblivious to the evil. Like the text said, wax figures and such were burned for some type of voodooism to defend from enemies, but who would stop from using the same type of ritual to destroy someone?"
Mika glanced from Jacob to Rayn. "Not to mention, back in those days, magic wasn't like an everyday thing, it was mostly used by priests or mystics, so it wasn't as commonly taught as it is today. Regardless, all in all, to answer the initial question Professor Miriyan asked; yes, I do believe they did use it wisely because since they didn't have as large of a darker threat we have today, they used it for productive purposes like harvests, illnesses, and passage to the afterlife." Mika finished, turning back to professor Axel. Damnit... she did it again, she had started ranting. With a small sigh, she looked back down into her book, ignoring any glances she may recieve and began working on her assignment.

“Mr.Collin I would rather enjoy it if we could leave my age out of this…” Axel said smiling and now walking around the room as he listened to the other students.
By the time Mike had finished with her thought he had made it back to the front of the class. “Mr. Collin, answered nicely I have to say, and even though Miss.Tenzaku got off subject of what my question was, she does bring up a valid point. Overall I must say that Miss.Vinake’s view was almost flawless, five points to Slytherin. Miss.Herrington also brings up an interesting subject, next question, why did they sleep in…’disgusting basements’ for visions, and how did those visions come to them?”
He took to another walk around the classroom then added. “Take into consideration of what Miss.Tenzaku said, were they ‘on something’, even though I didn’t say in the lesson, in most rituals there would be incense like substance burning…”

I sat silently in my seat for a bit. I had been up late reading our textbook. History of Magic was probably my second favorite class at Hogwarts, partially because Professor Axel was on of my favorite teachers, and not just because he was nice to look at.
I opened the book sleepily and listened for a bit to everyone's conversation. I agreed with Jacob partially, "Professor, wouldn't you agree that though magic can be a something great to defend yourself, as Jacob said, that magic in the wrong hands can be dangerous, even if used for reasons thought to be good. Something that was once considered great or good is not always. Great magic can always turn dark with a bit of influence." I had already read about half of our textbook, just for some interesting reading, and it seemed that even some of the bravest wizards with the best intentions could and had turned into something of power-hungry mosters.

Since this was his first History of Magic lesson Adam had gotten lost. He walked around Hogwarts just about freaking out because he couldn't find the class. And when he did finally found it, he was late. He was sure he was really late because there were already students in the classroom, and when Adam walked in they were discussing stuff. Adam frowned as he walked in and sat at the front of the room. He had never been so late before, and knew he was going to get in trouble for it. Adam took his bag off his shoulder and put it in his lap. He then looked at the Professor, waiting for what he would say.
