Welcome to Care of Magical Creatures with Professor Kingston.
Classes
First off, here's how my class will work. Most professors prefer a lecture style class where the professor speaks and the students listen, I on the other hand, believe in a unified class. I want you to learn, and enjoy learning while in my class. I believe the best way to learn is to teach, so during my classes, I will be holding open discussions where I want students to ask questions, and answer others.
Classes will be held twice a week, Mondays by the Lake and Wednesdays on the grounds infront of the Grounds Hut. Yes, classes are held outdoors. I believe this is a more comfortable and exciting learning environment for children to learn and connect with nature in this class. At the end of both lessons I will give out an assignment I expect to recieve in no more than 1 week that will cover both lesson 1 and 2 from that week.
Homework
When I give out an assignment I do not want the work to be accessible to other students to copy. I want all work owled to me. You have one week to turn the assignment in. The assignment can be anything from a simple questionaire, a worksheet, or a short essay. All answers must come from the lesson.
Do not copy my lesson word for word in your homework. I want you to write everything out in your own words. I will deduct 1 letter grade if I see it is copied and pasted.
When you owl your assignments to me please subject it with "Lesson 1 and 2, Assignment 1: YOUR NAME"
Tests
I will give out one test after 8 lessons that will cover all of lessons 1-8. Prior to the test I will spend one day reviewing over all 8 lessons. I will be giving out a cheat-sheet for you to fill out the answers. It is not a mandatory assignment, but it is highly recomended that you complete it. The cheat-sheet will be 30 questions long, out of those thirty, I will choose 20 questions to go on the test. Now here's the kicker:
DURING THE TEST YOU WILL NOT HAVE ACCESS TO THE LESSONS, ONLY YOUR CHEAT-SHEET!!
So my advise is to do the cheat-sheet.
Grades and House Points
House points are granted according to the standard grading scale.
Outstanding = +20
Exceeds Expectations = +10
Average = +5
Poor = 0
Dreadful = -5
Troll = -10
When you turn in an assignment, you automatically get 5 housepoints.
Questions?
If you have any questions please feel free to stop by my office or send me an owl. I'm always available.
